​I am a final year BA Hons Multimedia Journalism student at Bournemouth University. I am creating a multimedia project which includes a documentary podcast about deaf children and their experience in education. Included in the podcast will be an insight into how people with a cochlear implant or hearing aids experience school life as well as interviews from teachers from both a specialist deaf school and a state school. I will also interview a couple of students who have been through the education system which will include their experiences with having a hearing impediment. I am basing my podcast on a statistic which claims that deaf students are at least two grades below hearing students and GCSE by the age of 19. This really interested me to find out why this was and I believe that this topic has not been investigated as much as it should have. The target audience for my project will be BBC Radio 2 listeners which is an audience of people aged 35 and above. I decided to create a radio podcast as my final major multi-media project because I am passionate for radio features and really enjoy editing audio to create an engaging and ear-catching piece of work.
